Frequently Asked Questions

You've got questions?  We've got answers!

Do I have to sign up for the 5K in order to indulge in food truck delights?
Nope! Just show up and bring an appetite.

Is there a fee to enter the Food Truck Rally?
Nope! Just show up and pay for what you eat.  We just ask that you RSVP so we know how many people will be there.

Is there a fee to participate in the Sunset 5K or 100-Yard Youth Dash?
Yes, the 100-Yard Youth Dash is always only $5. Click here for the 5K registration fee schedule.  The sooner, the cheaper!

How does race day registration and packet pickup work?
Peter Piper predicts packet pickup will be practically perfect.  This year, there will be five packet pick-up lines for pre-registered participants based on the first letter of your last name.

Event organizers HIGHLY RECOMMEND registering early (the earlier, the cheaper!) and picking up your packet(s) during one of the designated pre-race dates.

If you are positive you want to wait until race day to register, YOUR BEST BET is to do so online independently and pick up your packet at the event.

  • We suggest you arrive no later than 3 p.m. to pick up your packet(s).
  • Packet pick-up lines at the event will shut down at 4 p.m. sharp.
  • Of course, we hope Mother Nature cooperates and gives us great weather.  If that happens (and it will!), lines will be longer.

Can you tell we really prefer you register early and pick up your packet(s) during one of the designated pre-race dates?

Where do the 5K proceeds go?
All proceeds from the event will help fund much needed COD Student Scholarships, making a difference in the lives of neighbors, friends, and families.

Each public high school district served by College of DuPage will have a dedicated scholarship funded by proceeds of the 5K for their graduates who attend COD.  At the time of race registration, participants have the ability to select the high school district that will benefit from their race fee.

Why won't my registration go through on It keeps "thinking" when I try to pay.  What's it thinking about?
Perhaps it's just daydreaming about food trucks, specifically the lobster rolls and grilled cheeses that'll be at the Food Truck Rally.

We do know that the registration platform prefers Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers, and likes desktops and laptops the most.  We've heard success stories of registration on tablets and phones too, though.

If you try and try again without success, your best bet is to call the Consumer Support line at (877) 228-4881, option 4.

How long can I expect to wait in food truck lines?
Well, this can vary based on time of day and which truck(s) you are interested in.  If you plan to sample various trucks, event organizers suggest you arrive when the rally opens at 2 p.m. before lines start growing at around 3 p.m. as people start to arrive for the 5K.  If you plan to participate in the 5K (*reminder* that's not necessary) and eat after the race, you may want to get creative with positioning yourself and lucky friends/family/spouses in another line at the same time.  Multitasking for the win!  Generally speaking, the lines for all trucks are between 0 and 15 minutes.  However, at the peak of the rally, the longest amount of time we heard anyone wait in line was 50 minutes and that was for the super popular trucks.  (By the way, all those people said it was worth it!)

What if the collapse of civilization is upon us and a food truck runs out of food or a specific item?
Event organizers can't promise anything.  HOWEVER, we make it very clear to food truck owners that they will feel the wrath of potential customers if that happens. Do yourself a favor and RSVP so we have a better idea of how many attendees there will be.

Why isn't there a concert this year?
While Tributosaurus as David Bowie was a fantastic addition to this event, that was included as part of COD's 50th Anniversary celebration last year.

What's the bathroom situation?
Actually, the Physical Education Center restrooms are recently renovated and super clean. Showers are available for runners and food truck rally attendees who tend to wear their food.

Why is this the best west suburban event in all the land?
Allow us to elucidate: diverse food truck delicacies; a scenic college campus; really BIG trucks you can actually TOUCH; a chance to raise much need scholarship funds; convenient and expansive parking; and did we mention food trucks?

Where should I park?
All parking at College of DuPage is free and over 700 spaces have been added for the 2017 event.  We suggest using the north side of campus off of Fawell Blvd. in lots A or C, or on the south side off of College Rd in lots 1 or 2. View map here.

Accessible parking is available on the north side College lot 1, but please note that anyone in that lot may not leave the premises while the 5k Run/Walk is occurring between approximately 4:45 and 6:30 p.m.

Where can I get all the latest and greatest information about the event other than this website?
The Facebook page, of course! Don't forget to share the page and invite those who will be upset if they are left out of the loop!

Do I need to bring cash?
No cash needed! While there is an ATM on campus, it's a few buildings away from the event. However, all food trucks will accept credit cards. In addition, 5K/Youth Dash registration is all online so we are encouraging participants to register from any device with internet capability instead.

What if it rains?... or snows? It is Chicago, after all.
No big whoop. This event will proceed light rain or shine. Should lightening be detected, the event will be interrupted and the area will be cleared until further notice. The adjacent Physical Education Center arena will be designated as shelter.
