Description of Organization:
Community Nurse Health Center is a non-profit organization. Community Nurse is dedicated to enhancing the health of our community. We serve as a community healthcare center for residents of the western suburbs of Chicago, focusing on those who have limited access to care. We provide affordable health, dental and healthcare programs for almost 3,000 patients. Two resale shops raise crucial funds for these clinics and 150 volunteers help out every week in these shops..
Description of Service Learner Role:
Community Nurse has a comprehensive experience for volunteers. Some hours will be spent in the clinic doing clerical projects, some time will be spent in the administrative offices, some will be in our resale shops. We will find a regular weekly three-hour shift for you to commit to and rotate you around to get different experiences and perspectives of how a non-profit health clinic operates..
Volunteers must be courteous and eager to help out in whatever task they are delegated. We ask for a minimum of 10-20 hours of volunteering from any short term volunteer.
Number of Placements Available:
It varies. We can use help from about five volunteers a semester. Typically COD students have helped out for 3-hours, once a week for a little less than two months. They have all gotten experience in our clinic, offices and resale shops
