Description of Organization:
The mission of the Forest Preserve District is "...to acquire...and hold lands...for the purpose of protecting and preserving flora, fauna and scenic beauties...for the purpose of the education, pleasure and recreation of the public." Volunteers share their SPIRIT – Skill, Passion, Imagination, Respect, Inspiration, and Time at Nature workdays, Special Events and at the Educational sites throughout the district.
Description of Service Learner Role:
At Nature Restoration workdays - Cut brush, Plant seeds, collect seeds, and remove exotic weeds.
You can view the volunteer workdays at www.dupageforest.com. Click GET INVOLVED, VOLUNTEER then ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES, CALENDAR OF EVENTS on right sidebar. All volunteers must register for workdays at least 5 days in advance by calling 630-933-7681. Dress in layers and in clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. We have some work gloves available but you may wish to bring your own gloves. No shorts or open-toe shoes, even in warm months. Bring water, bug spray and sun screen for your comfort. Orientation and safety guidelines are provided on the first visit. Arrive 10 minutes before the start of the workday. All volunteers are required to bring a waiver form to the workday. Waiver forms will be sent to you when you register. Thank you for choosing to volunteer with us!
