Description of Organization:
The Valley View Early Childhood Center serves preschool children ages 3, 4 and 5. All students have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). There are 10 children in the AM session and 10 children in the PM session. The classroom is set up with centers. The curriculum is child centered which gives the student choices during center time. The teacher plans a Unit of Study (theme) for at least one month. This is where the teacher embeds the IEP goals and objectives.
Description of Service Learner Role:
The service learner will spend time in one of the classrooms. They will observe the teacher as well as the two assistants. They will have an opportunity to observe and interact with the students. They will see how the children learn through a developmentally appropriate curriculum which are their child centered activities. It is suggested that the service learner stay for the AM or PM session to watch the full daily routine.
The service learner will start in the Preschool Office. The first time they come they will have their Service Learning Contract form from the college stating why they are there and documentation of who they are. There will be a letter of confidentiality to sign due to the special needs of the students. They will wear a visitor badge and then be assigned to one classroom for their visit. At the end of the visit they will return to the office, leave their badge and sign out.
