Day of Action

Manual Labor of Love

Thursday, October 20, 2016

The first COD Cares Manual Labor of Love Serve-a-thon was a rousing success thanks to more than 75 COD Action Heroes who took off to secret sites throughout the COD District. We worked hard for the benefit of deserving non-profit organizations, smiled a lot, and positively impacted many community residents!

The day began with eight crews and crew chiefs learning assignments, picking up tools and materials, boarding buses and heading to secret locations.  Next came the reveal: Crews discovered their destination and got to work painting, raking leaves, planting tulip bulbs, re-purposing books, sorted crayons, boxing donated food items, cleaning out a cellar, and collecting seeds in the prairie.

After lunch, the eight crews boarded their buses and cars to return for an ice cream social and share their stories of service.  The warmth in the room practically melted all the ice cream!

At the end of the day, COD Cares Action Heroes served Cupertino Home, Hamdard Center, Humanitarian Service Project, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Marklund Home, Ray Graham Association, S.C.AR.C.E, Willowbrook Wildlife Center and our own College of DuPage Prairie!

Thanks to all Action Heroes for a job well done.  Check back soon for the Manual Labor of Love Photo Gallery and video!
