COD Cares Spring Semester Day of Action

and Popcorn Bar

 


On Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., hundreds of COD students and staff members rolled up their sleeves and took action in the Student Services Center Atrium to support various community organizations that are doing great work to ensure better lives for our neighbors.

Action Stations:

  • ASSEMBLED OVER 300 SEND-OFF PACKAGES for military personnel to be distributed at O'Hare International Airport through the USO
  • PLANTED OVER 200 FLOWERS and decorated pots to bring cheer to homebound or senior living center residents through Meals on Wheels and at Canticle Place.
  • CREATED OVER 250 NO-SEW STOCKING CAPS for babies lost at birth through Angel Babies (hospitals involved are Central DuPage and Good Samaritan)
  • WROTE OVER 150 NOTES OF ENCOURAGEMENT and DECORATED CARE PACKAGE BOXES for cancer patients that Phil's Friends will send in the mail
  • REPURPOSED 2014 LAPS WITH THE CHAPS T-SHIRTS into drawstring tote bags for seniors at DuPage Convalescent Center and veterans through the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans

 

Donation Stations:

Look at all the great items COD Cares collected!

  • STUFFED ANIMALS for Addison police and fire stations to give to children in crisis situations
  • USED BOOKS for S.C.A.R.C.E. (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education)
  • SUPPLIES NEEDED by Angel Babies, an organization that creates internment gowns and memorial pillows for babies lost at birth (hospitals involved are Central DuPage and Good Samaritan)
      • Delicate fabrics (wedding/christening gowns, pastel bridesmaid/prom dresses)
      • Ribbon
      • Scissors
      • Lace
      • Bias tape
  • USED CELL PHONES for victims of domestic violence distributed through Lions Club International
