College of DuPage Continuing Education, in partnership with Career Step, brings you online training programs to help you enhance your skills and employment opportunities.

Career Step is leading online education companies with more than 20 years of experience offering career-focused education to help students quickly enter the workforce. The school is committed to providing the best online education experience, incorporating interactive learning tools.

Students also have one-on-one access to instructors who have years of industry experience. Administrative Assistant

ICD-10 FastTrack

The ICD-10 FastTrack course prepares medical coders to use the new ICD-10 code set, which all health care facilities and physicians' offices must begin using Oct. 1, 2015. The course assumes students are already familiar with the principles of medical coding as well as medical terminology, pharmacology, and basic anatomy and pathophysiology. Students will learn ICD-10 specific advanced anatomy/physiology as well as advanced pathophysiology and ICD-10 coding with guided hands-on exercises that allow students to gain real-world experience with the new code set. In addition to one-on-one support from AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainers throughout the course, students receive several industry code books.

Executive Assistant

Designed to help students gain the software and business skills needed to succeed in the modern office, the Executive Assistant program focuses on the Microsoft Office 2010 application suite and office management skills. Students learn to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint in addition to strengthening their typing skills and studying office procedures and communication. Upon graduation, students are prepared to earn the Microsoft Office Specialist Master certification, strengthening their resumes and proving their software skills to employers. In addition to one-on-one instructor support and personalized graduate support, students receive 11 textbooks and a Microsoft Office Specialist exam voucher.

Medical Administrative Assistant

Approved by the National Healthcareer Association, the Medical Administrative Assistant program is specifically designed to prepare students to earn the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) credential after graduation. The interactive online curriculum teaches students Microsoft Word and Excel basics, health care documentation and reimbursement, medical terminology, and basic anatomy as well as specific medical office management topics such as practice finances and standard office procedures. In addition to one-on-one support from experienced instructors throughout the course and access to personalized graduate support after graduation, students receive seven textbooks and a voucher to take the CMAA exam after graduation.

Medical Billing

The Medical Billing program helps students develop the knowledge and skills needed to work in health care reimbursement. The program focuses on documentation and procedures and includes hands-on exercises that allow students to apply what they learn. Students learn medical terminology, documentation and confidentiality, medical coding basics, and patient billing and collections as well as specialized considerations such as the ICD-10 code set and X12 5010 billing system. In addition to one-on-one support from experienced instructors throughout the course and access to personalized graduate support after graduation, students receive five textbooks and a one-year membership to the American Medical Billing Association.

Medical Transcription Editor

Approved by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), the Medical Transcription Editor program focuses on teaching the skills needed to work as a medical transcriptionist and medical transcription editor. Students study medical terminology, anatomy, health care documentation, and editing theory and technique as well as developing and practicing their typing and listening skills on hundreds of authentic, employer-provided dictations from a variety of specialties. In addition to one-on-one instructor support and personalized graduate support, enrollment includes 10 textbooks, a transcription foot pedal, an AHDI membership, a subscription to an online reference library and a voucher to take the RHDS exam.

Professional Medical Coding and Billing with ICD-10

The Professional Medical Coding and Billing program prepares students for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) and Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification exams. Students learn healthcare information management, reimbursement methodologies, medical terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology as well as studying the ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS code sets in an extensive practical section that gives them valuable hands-on experience before graduation. In addition to one-on-one support from experienced instructors throughout the course and access to personalized graduate support after graduation, students receive textbooks, industry codebooks, access to an online reference library, and a voucher for one of the national certification exams.

Computer Programs

 

Computer Technician

Developed by a Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) education partner, the Computer Technician program is specifically designed to prepare students for the CompTIA A+ certification exams. Students learn about hardware, operating systems, networking, security and troubleshooting as well as more specialized topics such as mobile devices, laptops and printers. In addition to one-on-one support from experienced instructors throughout the course and access to personalized graduate support after graduation, students receive two textbooks, two quick-reference exam study guides, a computer repair toolkit, a power supply tester, a USB drive and two CompTIA A+ certification exam vouchers.

Microsoft Access 2010

This program includes 29 hours of comprehensive Access curriculum, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert certification preparation, and online training with the benefit of classroom-style resources. Program access is for three months.

The Microsoft Office 2010 training course prepares students to earn the Microsoft Office Specialist Master certification by training them on the Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access applications. Students learn beginning and advanced concepts and complete a variety of hands-on exercises, allowing them to apply and practice the skills learned throughout the curriculum. The course's online format provides students the flexibility to study on the schedule and at the pace that fits their needs. In addition to one-on-one access to experienced instructors and technical support team throughout the course, students receive 10 textbooks and five quick reference cards.
