Getting Started
Sections:
Flexible Learning courses provide the same college-level content that is covered in their classroom counterparts. In fact, your transcript will list the course and grade you earned just as if you were enrolled in a classroom-based course.
To enroll
- Log into myACCESS
- Search for "Credit Classes" in myACCESS
- On the Search for Credit Classes page, select "Flexible Learning" as the course type
You may gain additional general information about Admissions and Registration, including the registration calendar, through the college's web site. Following registration but prior to the first day of classes, students registering in most appointment-based courses must call the center where they are registered to establish an appointment time. However, students registering in English Composition contact their instructor directly to schedule an appointment. Check in Blackboard after registering for specific information and instructions for your course. Most Flexible learning courses allow students to register after the term begins with the permission of the instructor.
Course materials
Textbooks may be purchased or for some courses, rented from the college bookstore
on campus, at a local off-campus bookstore or online at www.cod.bkstr.com. You can conveniently arrange for UPS shipping by calling the COD Bookstore at (630)
942-3883. Course materials, such as syllabi, course handbooks and student guides may
be available in Blackboard a week before the start of the term. Audio and video lessons
may be conveniently checked out at the off-campus centers. The Library, located in
the Student Resource Center (630) 942-2350, will also rent the full set of audio and
video lessons. Audio CDs for Flex courses may be purchased at the COD Bookstore.
After registering for a Flexible Learning course, students have access to their instructor
to facilitate learning. Instructors are available to assist and interact with students
in person during their scheduled office hours in the Learning Commons, as well as
by phone, voice mail, email and fax. Many Flexible Learning course instructors conduct
short orientations where students learn about the course and the instructor's expectations.
Instructors may offer flexible time frames for starting and
finishing courses within the semester and provide coaching on how to study for a Flexible
Learning course.
Taking tests
Tests are taken in testing centers conveniently located at the Glen Ellyn Testing Center and at the Learning Commons in Bloomingdale, Naperville and Westmont.
