Attention High School Seniors:

The deadline for the College of DuPage Scholars Award applications is March 15, 2013. This scholarship will automatically populate in the list of recommended scholarships if you qualify. the STARS online instructions are the same as above.

Please note: Final awards are based on available funds at the time of award. All applications are due 4/01/2013 unless otherwise stated and all applicants must be residents of Community College District 502 (College of DuPage) unless otherwise stated in the criteria.

Academic Excellence

 

College of DuPage Faculty Association Scholarship (G215)
1 @ $500 

To support students on the journey to reach their academic goals. 

• Have a 2.0 GPA or better
• Must include a written statement of 500 words or less that addresses financial need and how this scholarship would benefit your pursuit of knowledge and its application to your life 
  
  

College of DuPage Scholars Award
50 @ Full tuition for 64 credit hours

(Formerly Presidential Scholars Award) Applications due 3/15/2013 

• High school senior with at least a 27 ACT or
• A cumulative GPA of 3.75/4 or 4.75/5
• Must carry 15 credit hours
• Must complete 20 hours volunteer/service learning during the first year

College of DuPage Transfer Scholarships - 1 Award to each school ranging from half to full tuition.

To assist high achieving honors students transferring to Elmhurst College, North Central College or Aurora University. Applications are due 3/15/2013.

• Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better
• Must apply for graduation for May 2013
• Must finish Honors Program requirements

Downers Grove National Bank Scholarship (G249) 1 @ $500

To assist high school seniors expecting to graduate who have made an exceptional effort through school or community activities. 

• Full time student
• Have a 3.0 GPA or better
• Will or have graduated from a Downers Grove high school within six months of this application
• Include a written recommendation from a teacher/counselor/leader of a community organization

 

Foundation's Achiever Scholarship (G906) 10 @ $1,000 each 

To recognize students who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or better and to encourage their continued scholastic achievement.

• Be enrolled in a certificate or degree or transfer program
• Full time student
• Have cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better

 

H.D. McAninch Scholarship for Academic Excellence (G364)
2 @ $1,500 each

To recognize academic excellence and to reward students who have maintained a high GPA.

• In a transfer or degree or certificate program
• Full time student
• Have completed at least 24 credit hours with a cumulative 3.5 GPA
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year
• Must submit a written statement demonstrating leadership or distinctive contribution to the college or community

 

Michael Ries Alumni Scholarship (G278) 1 @ $500

To offer a scholarship to a student in need of financial assistance and who meets the necessary criteria.

• Completed 30 credit hours at COD
• Full time student
• Have a GPA of 3.5 or better
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year
• Submit a written statement describing collegiate or community involvement

 

 Accounting

 

Kathy Marszalek Memorial Scholarship (G444) 2 @ $2,000 each

In memory of Professor Kathy Marszalek, late Coordinator of Accounting at College of DuPage, this scholarship is offered annually to a student enrolled in accounting. Primary purpose is student's career objectives and scholastic performance. Secondary focus is given to financial and/or special needs.

• Be an Accounting major
• Have a 2.5 GPA or better in accounting classes and have and maintain a cumulative overall GPA of 2.0 or better
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year

 

Keiser Accounting Scholarship (G419) 1 @ $2,000

In recognition of the benefit that COD supplied Tom Keiser by providing education at a critical point in his life; and supporting his pursuit of an education which enabled him to access a successful entrepreneurial career. This scholarship was established to benefit students who might also be at a place in their life where such support can make a difference to the direction of their future ability to provide for themselves and their families.

• Be an Accounting major
• Have no previous degree beyond high school

 

Adults 21 and Older

 

Foundation's Returning Adult Scholarship (G915)
15 @ $1,750 each

To support returning adults in need of financial assistance to attend College of DuPage.

• Be 25 years of age or older
• Resident of District 502
• Be enrolled in a certificate or degree or transfer program
• Registered for or intend to register for at least 6 credit hours
• Be denied a Federal Pell Grant and Illinois MAP Grant
• Have a 2.0 GPA or better
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year

 

Anthropology

 

Ellen Johnson Memorial Scholarship (G220) 1 @ $1,000

To honor the memory of Ellen Johnson, an Anthropology professor at COD, a lifelong learner and educator.

• Have 2.5 GPA or better
• Completed at least one of the following Anthropology courses: A1105 A1115 A1120 A1125 or A1130
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year
• Submit a one page essay discussing how anthropology fits into future plans

 

Automotive

 

Mercedes Benz Scholarship (G923) 1 @ $500

To offer a scholarship to a student who plans to enroll in the Automotive Technology Program, or who is retraining for entry into the job market.

• Enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours
• Have a 2.0 GPA or better
• Written statement that illustrates plans to enroll in the Automotive Technology Program, or who is retraining for entry into the job market.

 

Behavioral Science

 

Harkins Women's Scholarship for Excellence in Sociology (G384)
1 @ $500

To honor a female student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of Sociology and to encourage a student to pursue Sociology as a field of study.

• Have completed 30 credit hours
• Female student
• Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
• Have a 3.5 GPA or better
• Completed two (2) courses in Sociology with a 3.5 GPA or better in each course
• Fewer than four (4) withdrawals during my time at COD
• FAFSA for the applicable academic year

 

Walter R. Jones Memorial Scholarship (G405) 1 @ $2,000

In memory of Walter R. Jones; Psychology Professor at COD. This scholarship is offered annually to students with a major in Behavioral Sciences to recognize and reward academic excellence.

Business

 

State Bank of Countryside Scholarship (G264) 1 @ $1,250

To assist a graduating senior from Lyons Township North; Nazareth Academy or Hinsdale South high schools who has made an exceptional effort through school or community activities.

• Graduating from Lyons Township North High School, Nazareth Academy or Hinsdale South High School
• Majoring in Business or Economics or Finance or Accounting
• Full time student
• Have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better
• Provide one page written recommendation by teacher/administrator/leader from high school or community organization
• Provide a written statement showing evidence of exceptional effort or achievement through school or community related activities

 

Community Service/Social and Public Service

 

Ange Mahnke Memorial Scholarship (G922) 1 @ $1,000

To offer a scholarship to a student who shares Ange and Robert Mahnke's commitment to public service.

• Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
• Not receiving other financial aid for tuition
• Have a GPA of 2.0 or better
• Career goal in one of the following: social services or government or education or psychology or child care or health services

 

Naperville Rotary Charities & the Rotary Club of Naperville Scholarship (G501) Amount varies up to $6,000 each

To assist students who are in need of financial aid to pursue education in vocational; technical and academic courses eventually leading to a 2 or 4 year degree.

• Not be the child of or the grandchild of a Rotarian
• Have a 2.0 GPA or better
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year
• Provide an essay that includes information you believe the Scholarship Committee should know.

 

Student Ambassador Scholarship (G519) 1 @ $500

To recognize a student involved in campus life through the student ambassador program and who has ambitions to continue their education at a four year institution upon graduating from COD.

• Have a 2.5 GPA or better
• Invited to be member in the student ambassador program
• Enrolled in or registered for at least six credit hours

  

Wendell Wood Scholarship (G935) 1 @ $500

To offer a scholarship to a student who shares Dr. Wendell Wood’s commitment to public service.

• Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours
• Not receiving other financial aid for tuition
• Have a career goal toward social services or government or education or psychology or child care or health care services or a related field
• Have a 2.0 GPA or better

 

Construction

 

Building Trades Scholarship (G267) 1 @ $2,000

The Suburban Building Officials Conference supports this scholarship to assist a student enrolled in Construction Management.

• Enrolled in the Construction Management or Architecture Technology program
• Have a 3.0 GPA or better
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year

 

Power Construction Scholarship (G472) 1 @ $2,500

To support outstanding construction management students in need of financial assistance so that a minimum of loan indebtedness is accrued.

• Be a construction management major
• At least a part-time student and maintain at least part-time status
• Have and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better

 

Road Builder Charities Scholarship (G370) 1 @ $1,000 each

To encourage students to enter into the construction field.

• Be a construction major
• Have a 2.5 GPA or better
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year

 

Criminal Justice/Paralegal

 

Donald J. Craft Memorial Scholarship (G306) 1 @ $500

To support a student pursuing a career in law enforcement or criminal justice and to honor the memory and service of Oak Brook Police Officer Donald J. Craft.

• Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or better
• Have at least a 3.0 GPA in my Criminal Justice courses at COD
• Completed at least 20 credit hours at COD
• Completed at least two Criminal Justice courses while at COD
• Provide a 300-word written statement of career goals as they relate to law enforcement and criminal justice

 

The Honorable William J. Bauer Scholarship for Paralegal and Criminal Justice Studies (G953) 1 @ $500

In honor of the Honorable William J. Bauer, this scholarship is offered to a student enrolled in either the Criminal Justice or Paralegal programs to help them realize their educational dreams and objectives.

• Must be enrolled in either Criminal Justice or the Paralegal program
• Part of full-time student
• No residency requirement

 

Mayes/McLean Scholarship (G445) 1 @ $500

Provide assistance to African American students in Criminal Justice studies.

• Be African American
• Enrolled at a minimum as a part-time student at least six (6) credit hours
• Pursuing a degree or certificate in law enforcement or criminal justice
• Have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (full-time) or a 2.5 cumulative GPA (part-time)
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year
• Demonstrate community service experience through a written statement included with this application

 

Michael Browning Memorial Scholarship (G266) 1 @ $500

To support a student pursuing a career in law enforcement or criminal justice and to honor the memory of West Chicago Police Officer Michael A. Browning who was killed in the line of duty on April 20, 1992.                

• Graduated from a West Chicago community high school
• Pursuing a degree or certificate in law enforcement or criminal justice
• Have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic

 

Culinary/Hospitality

 

Chef Tony Priolo Scholarship (G951) 1 @ $3,000

Chef  Arun Sampanthavivat Scholarship (G950) 1 @ $3,000

Chef Cory York Scholarship (G949) 1 @ $3,000

To support study in the Culinary Arts field and to promote the necessary skills required for a successful career in the field.

• Full or part-time student enrolled in the Culinary Arts degree, the Baking and Pastry Arts Degree, the Culinary Arts Certificate or the Baking and Pastry Arts certificate.
• Submit a one page essay describing career goals along with what you hope to contribute to the culinary industry.
• Award is applied $1,500 per semester.
• Criteria is the same for all three scholarships.

 

 

DiabeticLifestyle.com Scholarship (G207) 1 @ $500

To benefit culinary and baking students. Program will increase awareness of and knowledge about appropriate diabetes diets.

• Registered for Cooking 1101 or 1102 or Baking 2271 or 2272

• Include an original recipe for a culinary item or baked good suitable for individuals with diabetes

 

Kathy Testa Memorial Challenge Scholarship
1st Place $4,500; 2nd Place $2,000

To assist a culinary, pastry or hospitality student with tuition, supplies, books and fees through a culinary challenge which will require each contestant to prepare an entree and salad for three people in a two hour time limit.

• Plan to complete field of study within 3 years of start date

James C. Kohler Memorial Scholarship Fund (G427)
2 @ $1,000 each

To honor the memory of James Kohler who pursued a career in Food Service Administration but died in 1995 at 34 years of age. Also; to assist students who have been accepted into or enrolled in a certificate or associate degree program in Foodservice Administration or Hotel/Motel Management.

• Must have and maintain cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better

George Macht Scholarship Fund (G589) 1 @ $1,000 each

The Macht Scholarship was established through the generosity of many to honor George Macht's 30+ years exemplary service to College of DuPage Hospitality Program. George is a well-known and accomplished educator and chef whose teaching and leadership began in 1976 at COD and continued until his retirement in August 2008. His illustrious career is being recognized by financially assisting students majoring in one of the Culinary or Hospitality programs.

• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better

Marriott Chicagoland Business Council Hospitality Scholarship (G943) 1 @ $1,000

To assist a hospitality student with tuition, supplies, books or fees.

Engineering

Barth Engineering/Computer Science Scholarship (G227)
1 @ $1,500 each

To assist a second year student enrolled in any Pre-engineering or Computer Science program who plans to transfer to a baccalaureate granting college or university.

• Full time student
• Majoring in engineering or computer science or a related field
• Have completed 36 credit hours

 

Donald B. Carter Memorial Engineering Scholarship (G455)
2 @ $500 each

In memory of Donald Boone Carter's role as a business man, as an engineer; as a citizen and as a father, this fund will provide for the general expenses of students studying in the engineering field. This scholarship may be renewable dependent on review.

• Enrolled in one of the following: any engineering course or any calculus-based physics course (PHYSI 2111 or 2112 or 2115) or any calculus course beyond Calc I (MATH 2232 or 2233 or 2270)
• Full time student
• Provide a brief essay (500 words or less) that includes career goals

 

S.C. Reed Scholarship (G498) 2 @ $2,500 each

With many in their family who attend College of DuPage; the Reed family would like to assist students by providing a merit based scholarship for those studying in the Math and Applied Sciences area with a preference given to a student majoring in the field of Engineering. In addition; the award is named after S.C. Reed; a man of high moral standards and a strong leader who worked in the engineering field.

• Full time student
• Math or Applied Sciences major
• Self-motivated and have demonstrated strong leadership qualities and high moral standards
• Work while taking classes
• Have attended College of DuPage for at least one semester
• Have successfully completed part or all of the Calculus series of courses offered at College of DuPage
• Plan to work in the engineering field
• Provide a written statement of up to 500 words demonstrating self-motivation leadership and high moral standards

To assist an engineering student with tuition, books or fees.

Wilbur Walker Dodge Memorial Scholarship (G237) 1 @ $1,000

To honor the memory of Wilbur Walker Dodge, the father of Daniel Dodge.

To honor Dr. Mannion's father, who sacrificed his own education to provide for his family, by offering support to a father attending COD who has interrupted or postponed his higher education goals to support his family.

This scholarship is offered annually in honor of Jim Blackburn and Rosemary Suchomski to a working student to help them realize their educational dreams and objectives.

Community Promise Scholarship (G901) 1 @ $500

To assist adult students who do not qualify for other financial aid due to their income or student status.

• Have a 2.0 GPA or better

Flexible Steel Lacing Company Scholarship (G347)

To offer scholarships to two students in need of financial assistance who meet the necessary criteria

Foundation's Need Based Scholarship (G912) 15 @ $1,750 each

To support students in need of financial assistance to attend College of DuPage who have no other means of financial aid.

• Enrolled in a certificate or degree or transfer program
• Registered for at least 6 credit hours and plan to continue with at least 6 credit hours each semester
• Will not receive PELL or MAP funds for the upcoming academic year

Hal Keller/Forbes Scholarship (G448) 2 @ $500 each

In the name of Hal Keller; founder of the scholarship and owner of Forbes Electric. The scholarship is offered annually to a student with financial need.

To assist women in continuing their education despite life's challenges.

Jill Johnson Hall Memorial Scholarship (G238) 1 @ $1,000

To honor the memory of Jill Johnson Hall, the sister of Sandee A. Whited.

Joos Memorial Scholarship (G406) 1 @ $500 each

To honor the memory of the late Gregory D. Joos; who was the Director of Human Resources for COD 2001 to 2008. Greg was the first generation in his family to attend college and would have been pleased to know that these funds were assisting students with financial need who may be the first in their family to attend college.

Rotary Club Of Naperville Downtown (G503) 2 @ $1,250 each

In honor of Rotary's philosophy of "service above self" and to further the message of "Rotary Shares", this scholarship is established to assist students with financial need who are seeking degrees in careers where they will be giving back to others.

Earl E. Swanson; Jr. Memorial Scholarship (G521)
1 @ $1,000 each

To honor the memory of Earl Edward Swanson Jr., Renaissance man, artist, sculptor, musician, public servant, champion golfer, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather by supporting his love of art through financially assisting a student enrolled with the Associate Degree of Fine Arts. Earl, "Bud" to his friends, founder of the Danada Sculpture Gardens Association, encouraged others to enhance their like with art and music. Life size bronze sculptures he created are placed around DuPage County. He received many awards over his career and used his artistic abilities to serve his country winning a War Bond Poster contest in his youth before joining the Navy.

Gregory Lon Wilson Memorial Scholarship (G565) 1 @ $1,000

To honor the memory of COD Photography Instructor and former student; Gregory Lon Wilson. This scholarship is offered annually to a student enrolled in the photography program.

• Pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Photography Technology or a Certificate in Digital Imaging

• Provide an essay explaining career objectives and who Gregory Lon Wilson was and what he added to COD

 

Howard K. Canaday Music Scholarship (G190) 1 @ $2,500

To honor the memory of Howard K. Canaday, a great son, a good friend, entrepreneur, photographer, music aficionado and College of DuPage alum.

• Enrolled in the Associate in Fine Arts degree program focusing on music
• Have a 3.0 GPA or better

John Belushi Choral Scholarship (G230) 1 @ $1,000

To support a choral student.

• Have experience and background in vocal music

John Belushi/Second City Theatre Scholarship (G230)
1 @ full tuition for 2013-14

To support an acting or technical theatre student with full tuition, fees and books for one year.

• Must prepare a 1-2 minute monologue of contemporary theatre (comedic or dramatic)
• Have experience and background in the performing arts or technical theatre
• Filed the FAFSA for the applicable academic year
• Include one recommendation from an educator and/or employer

 

Tandaric Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship (G522) 1 @ $1,000 each

To honor the memory of Edward and Caroline Tandaric, musician and artist, and to assist a student enrolled in the Associate Degree of Fine Arts. Edward was a member of the Chicago Windy City Ramblers, the Illana Jazz Club and a life-long fan of Dixieland Jazz. Caroline was a member of the DuPage Art Guild and a local award winning artist with one of her paintings in the famous sofa scene from "Risky Business.”

Fire Science

 

Samuel T. Watts Fire Science Scholarship 2 @ $2,500

To provide financial support for training in the EMS/Firefighting profession, in memory of Samuel T. Watts.
