Search the classified job listings of over 150 local newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, L. A. Times, and Miami Herald plus more than 1400 partners. Provides a menu choice of career field and location, giving information of Web and newspaper postings for jobs that match. The program will search for job listing matches and send them to your e-mail address, if you register. Registration is free.

An alliance between two nonprofit associations, DirectEmployers Association and National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) provides up-to-date job postings nationwide.

Business Databases

Research your company target in databases focusing on business. All of these titles are available from home.

Hoover's Online

Great site for background information on companies prior to an interview. Provides links to companies that have recruiting sites on the web. Fee charged for full company profile, but much free data, including links to newspaper and trade magazine articles on a company. Also includes links to job listings from company entries.

Reference USA

U.S. company information searchable by name, yellow page directory heading, geographically by radius of ZIP code, metro area, or county, and by number of employees or sales volume. For job-seekers, useful for creating a contact list of area companies to investigate for possible job openings. Allows 50 prints or downloads per search. Purchased database, so have COD Library card barcode ready to enter if coming from home. Click for a sample search instruction sheet.

Occupational Employment Statistics (OES): Wage Information

Find wage data for over 700 occupations in a specific Illinois county or metropolitan statistical area organized by Standard Occupational Code

Salary Expert

Basic salary reports for hundred of job titles in U.S. metro areas that include renter’s Cost of Living estimates for each locality. For job transfers, basic cost of living report available. Premium Salary Report can be ordered for a fee.
