COD Installs Electric Car Charging Stations
By Jennifer Duda
Electric vehicle owners now have the ability to charge their batteries while working or taking classes with the installation of two charging stations at College of DuPage’s Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
Two units, each with two charging ports, are available for a nominal charge on the south side of campus. The first, located in a staff lot just south of the Berg Instructional Center, was installed late last year. A second is located near the entrance to the newly renovated Seaton Computing Center.
“We had site work projects in these locations during the summer construction season, allowing us to run the necessary electrical and data infrastructure for the charging stations,” said Chris Wosachlo, COD Energy Manager. “The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is funding for the units themselves with the College paying for the installation.”
The units cost approximately $6,500 each and feature charging ports, which will fully charge a typical vehicle battery in two to three hours, Wosachlo said.
