Employment and Endorsement
Sections:
The Interior Design industry, like many professional career fields, is tied to the economy. Trends in the changing job market include the emergence of career opportunities in kitchen and bath design, advanced computer-aided drafting, sustainable/green design, advanced lighting design, and universal/barrier-free interior design.
Salaries range from $28,000 to $40,000 for entry-level interior design positions. These figures will vary depending on individual portfolio skills and specific career goals. Salary trends differ from design-based to sales-based jobs. Students generally need to develop one to three years or more of additional work experience after graduation to establish higher salaries. Professional development may include additional education and exam compliance as determined by selected career paths and/or state registration requirements. Graduates should check with their specific professional or industry-based certification organization for details.
Successful interior designers must possess aesthetic abilities, be detail-oriented and have strong business management and interpersonal communication skills. They must have the ability to learn new technologies, meet work deadlines and be creative in problem-solving.
