Faculty Spotlight: Nancy Carey
Nancy Carey was first drawn to the culinary industry because it offered a work environment that was very active, artistic and social.
Carey was founder and president of Red Hen Bread, a wholesale and retail bakery in Chicago, before turning to education. She was a baking and pastry instructor at Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago for eight years before coming to College of DuPage.
"Teaching offered an opportunity to help others actualize their aspirations and goals," she said. "It is a wonderful way of practicing your craft and helping others. I hope my students are enthusiastic about baking or rather the craft of baking. I try to instill respect for the craft and adherence to personal standards."
Carey finds inspiration in the people around her teaching and producing.
"There is so much to learn from our colleagues and students -- new methods, different techniques and new ways of delivering information," she said.
