Camille Esterman
Program: Accounting

After many years working as an enrolled agent with the U.S. Treasury Department and specializing in federal taxation, Camille Esterman wanted to understand financial accounting, especially a corporate balance sheet.

That led her to College of DuPage, where she took all of the accounting courses necessary to sit for the CPA exam. Now she works for a small, privately-owned accounting firm in Naperville and teaches Financial Accounting 1140 and Federal Taxation 2205 at COD. She also teaches the review of individual taxation for the Northern Illinois University CPA Review, REG section.

"I strongly believe in the value of continuing education and enjoy interacting with students," she said. "Teaching for me is an opportunity to share knowledge with students as well as learn from them. Every student in my class brings life lessons that enrich the topics I teach.

"I hope that every student in my class leaves with some knowledge that can be applied to their own lives. Understanding financial accounting is the basis for investigating opportunities and making sound investment choices. Understanding the impact of the federal tax code is critical in making monetary and even lifestyle decisions."

Because she teaches non-traditional students, Esterman is impressed by their dedication, work ethic and eagerness to learn.

"Having been 'in their shoes,' as I took accounting courses at College of DuPage, I can relate to the effort it takes to balance school, work, family and personal needs," she said. "Making classes relevant for them is what inspires me."
