Student Spotlight: Larry Caruso
Major: Paralegal Studies
Larry Caruso was undecided when he started at College of DuPage.
Like many students, he was attracted to COD by the location and affordable cost. But once he found the Paralegal Studies program, Caruso discovered a career that perfectly suited him.
"I always liked movies and TV shows that incorporated the law," he said. "I also like reading and research, which I will do a lot of as a paralegal.
"So far the program has been great and I am learning a lot. I have met some cool students and faculty, who make the program even more fun. My writing and overall professional skills are improving as each class progresses, and I am becoming more comfortable with legal terminology and what the expectation is of a paralegal."
Caruso also served at Media Officer for the College's Paralegal Club. He encourages all Paralegal students to join the club, as it helped him get to know the faculty and provided an even greater opportunity to ask questions outside of the classroom.
His goal is to find work in Chicago as a paralegal for several years while he saves money to pursue a bachelor's degree. While he's undecided regarding his ultimate career goal, Caruso is considering law school as a possible option.
"College of DuPage is helping me toward meeting my goals because it offers a great program that I really enjoy, and the overall environment in the Paralegal program is making me work hard and be accountable for my work."
