Student Spotlight: Ernesto Cruz
Major: Paralegal Studies
Ernesto Cruz was inspired to study law by his family.
"I was always making some type of argument with all our conversations," he said. "That and I've always wanted to help people out, and being a paralegal is a stepping stone to becoming an attorney."
Cruz's first experience with college was at Benedictine University. But he did not
finish his degree and felt that
if he was to return to school, it would be to College of DuPage.
"I do not regret that, because having come to COD was a great decision," he said. "COD is providing me with an amazing education. The instructors are not just teachers, they've worked in the field and have plenty of experience and knowledge to share with us. COD is helping me complete requirements to transfer at a fraction of the cost, it is getting me closer to becoming a successful attorney, and I have met a lot of great people while attending classes here."
After completing his associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, Cruz plans to earn his bachelor's in Paralegal Studies at Loyola University. He wants to open his own paralegal firm while finishing law school, and after gaining experience as a lawyer, he wants to open his own law firm.
"I want to be a great attorney, like those teaching at COD, because they are preparing me for my career," he said. "The amount and quality of knowledge and skills gained in the Paralegal Studies program is valuable enough to make attorneys want to hire you.
"For any students considering the Paralegal program at COD, I would quote Nike by saying 'Just Do It!' "
