When Rob Gibson was laid off, he turned to College of DuPage.

Although he had earned two bachelor's degrees, including one in chemical engineering, Gibson realized he needed new skills. He met with COD Professor Branislav Rosul and decided to pursue the Electro-Mechanical Technology degree.

"A job is what this is all about," he said.

While at College of DuPage, he worked as an intern at Packer Engineering on the innovative Green Fuels project, a collaboration between Packer, Argonne National Laboratory, the city of Naperville and COD. He was surprised that after spending one year at College of DuPage, he had the opportunity to work alongside scientists and engineers and learn the theories behind alternative fuels.

"I always wanted to work in a gasification or bio-reactor setting," he said. "I see a great need for our country to be off of imported energy, and that's one of the reasons why I did this internship."
