Student Spotlight: Brian MacArtney
Major: Associate in Arts
Brian MacArtney started taking classes at College of DuPage before deciding to join the military.
“My family mainly served in the Air Force, my aunts and my uncle were in the Air Force,” he said. “So that appealed first to me.”
Enjoying the friends and camaraderie after enlisting, MacArtney worked as a military police officer. When it was time to return to college, he came back to College of DuPage and quickly discovered the Veterans Services office.
“They have been a constant help for me,” he said. “They keep me on track and are always quick to help me with any problem that I have.”
Having graduated with his Associate in Arts degree, MacArtney is pursuing the 3+1 for Management at Benedictine University and finishing a few more classes before starting the program. His goal is to become a manager at a veterans services office in order to work with other veterans who need help like he did.
MacArtney is pleased with his decision to attend College of DuPage and encourages others to take advantage of its resources.
“COD is one of the premier colleges in the country,” he said. “If you come here, get involved, whether it is with the COD vets club or with any club. You need to get involved with like-minded individuals to make the best of your college career.”
