Student Spotlight: Kevin Mniszewski

Kevin Mniszewski
Major: Hospitality Management

Kevin Mniszewski wants a job where he can interact with customers.

“I’ve worked as a customer service representative for years, and being able to provide service with a smile and making sure that a guest leaves happy is huge,” he said. “Why not put that passion into a career?”

Mniszewski enrolled in the Hospitality Management program at College of DuPage. In addition to its price and location, he's receiving the motivation and confidence to excel once he enters the workforce.

“I know I’m heading in the right direction,” he said. “With all of the wonderful staff and personnel employed at the College, there’s always someone you can talk to. Having professors who constantly reiterate, ‘Just come see me if you have any questions,’ means a lot to any student who is juggling school, work and life.”

After graduating with honors and earning his associate’s degree, Mniszewski landed a full-time position at the Hilton Double Tree in Downers Grove.

“I’m doing a mix of jobs from front desk to concierge to bellman. I love staying busy and that’s exactly what I’m doing,” he said. “I even married my beautiful wife, Rachel, who I actually met at COD. Funny, right? Now that I have my degree, being able to use it in the field I love every day is amazing. Not everybody gets to admit that.”

Mniszewski is also considering COD's 3+1 program with Roosevelt University that will help him earn a bachelor’s degree.

“The opportunities that await you are the greatest aspect of the hospitality industry,” he said. “With such vast job titles, you really can’t say where you'll be in 10 years. That’s what makes it so exciting for me.

“For any new students coming to College of DuPage, have an open mind! Sit down and look through the Catalog. COD has so much to offer, don’t limit yourself to one degree or certificate. As soon as you decide on an area of study and enroll, get a faculty advisor in that field. You will thank him/her after graduation, I guarantee it!”
