Zachee Saleng
Major: Engineering

Zachee Saleng believes he was born to be an engineer.

"I have always liked science and mathematics," he said. "I like to know how things work. I like innovation and I like to create. I like to conquer and discover new things. Therefore, engineering was my choice. When I see myself in the professional world, I can only see me as an engineer."

Saleng selected College of DuPage for its programs of study, positive environment, flexibility of schedule, caring faculty, and the fact that COD welcome people from all over the word.

"Having lived in various countries made me sensitive to cultural differences, and I like the diversity of cultures at COD," he said. "Another reason I like COD is the faculty. The professors are always willing to assist me as a student. They are passionate about their job and that helps me to be a better person and a better student."

In 2014, Saleng was awarded the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship and was recognized at the annual MLK Breakfast co-sponsored by College of DuPage and Benedictine University.

"I was very excited and just full of joy. This experience made me realize that the ideology that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was fighting for has made things possible for me," he said.

Saleng, who plans to graduate in 2016, would like to pursue both bachelor's and master's degrees. His start at College of DuPage is providing him with the skills and confidence to reach these goals.

"I want to be successful and able to make a difference in my life and the life of others," he said. "College of DuPage is a great place to start achieving your dreams and to become what you want to be. COD is not only a great academic institution with a high level of education but it also is a place that brings you in contact with first-rate professors and helps you make friends from all over the world. COD has a great library, physical education facility and it's very secure. You can have your own space to study quietly and find many resources that will help your experience of being a college student just wonderful."
