Student Spotlight: Marta Timmerman
Marta Timmerman has been dancing since she could walk.
“I’ve danced throughout my entire life, and it has always been my goal to continue dancing through college and beyond,” she said. “Near the end of my senior year of high school, I wasn’t entirely sure of what I wanted to major in. When I heard that College of DuPage had dance, I had to be there! It was also a wise choice, because I could save money and get my general requirements out of the way.”
Timmerman took advantage of several opportunities to challenge herself, delving into subjects she never really enjoyed before and getting to know her professors.
“I mostly work independently, but when I needed help and a little guidance, COD was very helpful,” she said. “In my two years at the college, I’ve had great professors that were willing to work with me. I loved everything COD offered me.”
During her time at the College, Timmerman participated in the Disney College Program and has since worked at Disney as a character performer. She also danced at COD in a number choreographed by one of the Thodos dance company members.
She is now pursuing a double major in dance and pre-health science at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Penn. From there she would like to have a dancing career, whether as part of a dance company or with Disney.
Timmerman calls her time at College of DuPage an “amazing experience” and encourages others to take advantage of everything the school offers.
“Attending COD was one of the best decisions I could have possibly made,” she said. “I loved dancing and performing there. The dance faculty became my friends and I am so grateful for all the opportunities that they gave me!”
