Student Spotlight: Julia Wagner
Major: Medical Assistant
For years, Julia Wagner wanted to complete her education. Then she finally decided to take the plunge.
“I chose College of DuPage because I had heard many good things about it,” she explained. “I had a friend who attended years before. And I looked in to many schools and found that COD had a variety of health programs to choose from. It also was convenient to my schedule, not too far from my home and had off-campus locations.”
Wagner entered the Medical Assistant program, and during her time at COD, she received three scholarships: Aveling Memorial, DuPage County Health Improvement Association and DuPage Medical Group Darrell Stremler Memorial.
“The scholarships allowed me to improve myself through education and strive for a great career in the medical field,” she said. “I would not be able to complete my studies due to financial difficulties without them. I am so grateful for them.”
Wagner finished her Associate in Applied Science degree in Medical Assistant in 2011 and passed her national certification exam. She now works as a Certified Medical Assistant for Cadence Health Hospital Neurosciences Department and is currently taking classes at COD to prepare for the Nursing program.
“The Medical Assistant program at COD prepared me to work in the medical field and take the national certification exam,” she said. “COD is full of opportunities for people like myself to come back to school and complete college or learn a new career. I am thankful to have such a great college to attend.”
