Scholars Awards

Scholars Award Program

The Scholars Award Program is College of DuPage's premier merit-based scholarship program. The competition is fierce and a limited number of scholarships are awarded each year.

Eligibility Requirements

Students are eligible to apply for one of our three merit-based scholarships from College of DuPage. This is a competitive scholarship program, where all applicants are evaluated based on their cumulative GPA and ACT/SAT scores.

To qualify for one of the scholarships, the applicant must be a 2017-18 Community College District 502 High School Graduate and meet one of the below criteria.

Scholars Award Descriptions

Presidential Scholars Award

The Presidential Scholars Award covers up to 64 credit hours of in-district tuition. Fees and books are not covered. As part of the scholarship, the student is automatically enrolled in the College of DuPage Honors Program and the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. The $75 membership fee for Phi Theta Kappa is waived.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • 3.8 GPA/4.0 scale or 4.75 GPA/5.0 scale
  • 29 ACT or 1350 SAT

Board of Trustees Scholars Award

The Board of Trustees Scholars Award is a $2,500 award ($1,250 per semester). The scholarship can be applied to tuition only. Fees and books are not included. As part of the scholarship, the student is automatically enrolled in the College of DuPage Honors Program. This scholarship is renewable annually, up to four semesters.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • 3.6 GPA/4.0 scale or 4.5 GPA/5.0 scale
  • 27 ACT or 1280 SAT

Deans Scholars Award

The Deans Scholars Award is a $1,000 award ($500 per semester). The scholarship can be applied to tuition only. Fees and books are not included. As part of the scholarship, the student is automatically enrolled in the College of DuPage Honors Program. This scholarship is renewable annually, up to four semesters.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • 3.5 GPA/4.0 scale or 4.37 GPA /5.0 scale
  • 25 ACT or 1200 SAT
       

Process to Apply

  1. Complete the General Admissions application to College of DuPage
  2. Complete the general application on the Academic Works Scholarship Portal using my access user name and password
  3. Complete the COD Scholars Award supplemental application on Academic Works Scholarship Portal
  4. When submitting the application on Academic Works, please make sure to submit the following:
    • Official ACT/SAT Scores
    • Official high school transcript

You will receive a confirmation email from scholarsaward@cod.edu once all required materials have been submitted. When filling out the General Admissions application, please use your personal email address, as we will be sending you important information pertaining to the Scholars Award application process.

 

Application Deadline

  • Fall Priority Application Deadline: Wednesday, November 15, 2017
  • Spring Application Deadline: Thursday, March 1, 2018

Timeline to Apply

  • Fall Priority Application Deadline: Wednesday, November 15th

Any student who completes the Scholars Award Application, the General Admissions Application, and submits all required materials by November 15th will be considered for the Scholars Award Program. Applicants who apply on or before the priority deadline submission date will receive a decision letter in mid-December.

 

  • Spring Application Deadline: Thursday, March 1

Any student who submits all required documents for the Scholars Award Program between November 16th and March 1st, and meets the minimum eligibility requirements, will be considered for one of our three Scholars Awards. Applicants who apply on or before the spring submission date will receive a decision letter in mid-April.


Scholars Award Orientation Sessions

Once a student is accepted into the Scholars Award program, they are invited to attend one of the Scholars Award Orientation Sessions beginning in April 2018. These orientation dates will be sent to the accepted students during the spring semester.


The Scholars Award Orientation Sessions provide students with the opportunity to meet with the Scholars Award Student Success Counselors, register for classes, and setup their payment plans (if awarded the Board of Trustees or Deans Scholarships).

Requirements to Maintain Scholarship

  1. Must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) pursuing a degree or certificate program
  2. Maintain a 3.5 GPA while at College of DuPage
  3. Complete a minimum of 15 credit hours of honors coursework, including an honors seminar
  4. Meet with an assigned academic advisor prior to registering for classes each semester
  5. Presidential Scholars Award Recipients Only: Complete 20 hours of approved volunteer service during the first year of the scholarship

Transcript Designation

All Scholars Award Program recipients will have their respective scholarship notated on the final transcript upon successful completion of all graduation and scholarship requirements.


NOTE:If a student fails to comply with the above requirements, the will no longer be considered a part of the Scholars Award Program. The student would then be responsible for payment, in full, of all tuition after that semester. Please note that the Scholars Award cannot be reinstated even should the student achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher in the future.
