Cosmetology has always fascinated Jackie Tredup.
"It is a very rewarding profession and requires both a special talent and artistry," she said.
Tredup is sharing her talents with students in College of DuPage's Cosmetology program. In addition to teaching, she works at Cannella Hair Professionals and previously worked as a hair professional and was a manager for the Barber and Beauty Service for the State of Illinois at the Health Center. She also spent 16 years on the Kane County Board as well as serving on the Northern Illinois Planning Commission and several local community boards. In 2010, she was awarded the YWCA Public Service Award.
It's in the classroom where Tredup sees the eager faces of future professionals, and she enjoys being part of their success.
"I hope students develop a mix of confidence and a good sense of what it takes to build a business," she said. "My wish list is for each student to enjoy what they do, know that this is a great profession, and have knowledge of the components to other related jobs within the profession. I am impressed and inspired when graduates return with their success stories.
"Cosmetology is a work of art. My favorite artist is Georgia O’Keeffe, and I am inspired by the way she utilizes color and beauty on canvas, much like we use our tools to create color and beauty."
