From a young age, Brenda Duran understood the value in working in health care.
“Growing up, I saw the type of impact health care workers can make, especially nurses and the one-on-one care they provide,” she said.
To help her prepare for a career in nursing, Duran chose College of DuPage for its close location and quality academics. She was also named a Presidential Scholar, which provides two years of tuition for high-achieving students as well as enrollment in the Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa.
“COD helped me financially and provided a lot of great resources to continue my education,” she said. “The Presidential Scholarship helped me so much by allowing me to focus on school without carrying the financial burden of it.”
Having received the Honors Transfer Scholarship to Aurora University, Duran is transferring to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
“I’m thankful to be receiving the scholarship because it will help me in achieving my goal in attaining my BSN,” she said.
Her goal is to become a nurse anesthetist and volunteer in local communities in need. Duran is thankful that COD provided a strong start on her education that will serve her well in her career.
“College of DuPage gave me so much,” she said. “I would recommend that other students consider COD, especially the financial benefits and resources they provide.”
