Major: Baking and Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts
Alex Skrzypczyk is drawn to the organized chaos of the kitchen.
“I can’t seem to get enough of it and I love how you can manipulate simple ingredients to come up with something amazing,” she said.
Skrzypczyk previously completed a different degree but was unhappy with her career. She decided to make a change and, after touring a few schools, thought College of DuPage was the best option.
“COD has provided me with excellent chef Instructors and many opportunities to continue to grow as a young culinary professional,” she said. “I was able to join the American Culinary Federation Student Competition team, where I learned so much about myself personally and professionally.”
After graduating with high honors with degrees in both Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Arts, Skrzypczyk is now the sous chef at Sunday Dinner Club in Chicago. She would encourage prospective students to consider College of DuPage’s Baking and Pastry Arts program.
“Take the leap and pursue what you love,” she said. “The industry is huge and filled with endless possibilities for passionate and driven culinary minds. That old saying is pretty true, that if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life. If you work hard and chase after your dream, people will see your passion.”
