High School Equivalency (GED/HSE)

Take the first step toward your educational goals and improve your earning potential by working toward your high school equivalency. COD's free HSE program prepares you to take and pass the GED® or other high school equivalency exam.

Who is the HSE program for?

Adults age 16 and over who:

  • Lack a high school diploma
  • Have good reading skills
  • Need to prepare to earn a high school equivalency certificate

Note: Those who are 16 or 17 years of age must have official high school withdrawal letter.

You'll receive instruction in the five areas covered on the tests:

  • Social studies
  • Science
  • Interpreting literature and the arts
  • Mathematics
  • Writing skills

Instruction is also offered on the U.S. and Illinois Constitutions, and a test covering these areas must be passed if it was not passed in high school
