Developmental Literacy

Literacy classes are available for students with mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disabilities who are interested in improving their reading comprehension skills. Course materials are assigned according to current levels of performance, and students work at their own pace. Individualized instruction is provided by our instructors who have vast experience in the area of reading instruction. Literacy classes complement other Developmental Education course offerings within College of DuPage.

We are not offering Literacy courses during Summer 2020. However, Fall 2020 sessions are being offered during the day and evening hours on campus in Glen Ellyn.

Course Overview

We believe that it is especially imperative that adults with disabilities continue to enhance their ability to decode and comprehend written text. Improved reading comprehension skills are solidly linked to better outcomes in the areas of employment, post-secondary education, and independent living. The goal of our Literacy course offerings is to provide reading instruction that will assist in the continued development of this crucial life competency.
