Hands-on Fun for Students Grades 3 to 8

Our Academic Enrichment Program features classes that improve academic and language skills, develop an appreciation for art and drama, and provide opportunities to explore technology. 

These courses offer a unique opportunity to boost interest and understanding in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) topics in exciting ways that complement a child's learning. Active and engaging experiences foster a student's natural curiosity and stimulate learning and problem-solving.

The Youth Academy is offering four STEM-related academic enrichment courses on campus this fall. Whether your student is interested in numbers, coding or design, we offer programming that is sure to peak his or her interest!

3-D Printing—Grades 3 to 5
Welcome to the future! Explore the exciting technology of 3-D printing and design. Learn how to use computer design software to create 3-D objects, explore how 3-D printers work and print a design of your own! Instructor: Richard Morton

Scratch Programming—Grades 3 to 5
Build your basic computer coding skills. Scratch uses computer programming language to manage multiple forms of media, including text, images, animation and audio recordings, to create interactive stories, games and animations. Instructor: Kelly Kuenstler

Algebra Reboot—Grades 6 to 8
Strengthen your algebra skills! Designed to emphasize the study of linear and nonlinear functions, mathematical concepts introduced in this class may include analyzing and solving linear equations and inequalities, data analysis, probability and polynomials. Bring your graphing calculator, if you have one. Instructor: Mary Kay Rensch

Video Game Design—Grades 6 to 8
Learn to master the power of the Unreal Engine 4 game engine to create an epic side-scrolling adventure. Discover how the pros create games all while using the same techniques and tools to make your own unique game. Class includes a blueprint kit that has everything needed to have a completed game by the end of the course. Instructor: Richard Morton

Summer Programs

The Academic Enrichment Program runs for nine weeks during the summer. Most courses are one week in length and run Monday through Friday. The Summer 2020 Youth Schedule of Classes will be available in early spring with full schedule details.
