English Language Classes

Welcome to English Language Studies! We are looking forward to working with you to improve your English language skills.

English Language Studies offers a variety of class formats: Face-to-face, Hybrid, VCM, and NET.

Types of Classes

Face-to-face

These classes meet on campus in Glen Ellyn. Students will meet with their instructors for 4 hours per week during fall and spring semesters and 8 hours per week during the summer semester. Students can expect to do 4-8 hours of homework during fall and spring semesters and 8-16 hours of homework per class during summer semester.

Hybrid

These classes meet on campus in Glen Ellyn and online. The amount of time that the students meet with their instructor and how much time they can expect for homework will vary by class.

VCM

These classes meet online. Students will meet with their instructors for 4 hours per week during fall and spring semesters and 8 hours per week during summer semester. Students can expect to do 4-8 hours of homework during fall and spring and 8-16 hours of homework per class during summer semester.

NET

In most NET classes, students work on their own throughout the course. In traditional NET classes, there is not much contact among the instructor and the students. However, in English Language Studies classes, students are expected to meet with the instructor and students for 1-2 hours per week. In some classes, students can choose between a morning or evening meeting. Students should look at the comments in MyAccess to make sure they are available during one of the weekly meeting times. Students should plan to spend up to 8 hours per week on the class during fall and spring and up to 16 hours per class during the summer.
