COVID 19 Info – Math Placement for Spring 2021

View a list of proctored ALEKS required math courses and Guided Self-Placement math courses and Guided Self-Placement science courses.

Registration for the following Math courses will require a Math Placement test score: 0470, 0481, 0482, 1102, 1115, 1120, 1428, 1321, 1322, 1431, 1432, 1533, 1635, 2115, 2134, and 2231.

You may not need to take a Math Placement test if you have one of the following:

  • A prerequisite math course with a grade of C or higher. For math classes taken at another institution, transcripts must be submitted and evaluated by the Office of Student Records.
  • A previous College of DuPage ALEKS PPL score that is less than one year old and meets the minimum score requirements.

For Spring 2021 registration only, the following Math courses do not require a Math Placement test score: 0461, 0465, 1100, 1218, and 1220.

If you are unsure which math course your program of study requires, it is in your best interest to take a proctored ALEKS PPL test.

Our testing facilities remain closed due to COVID-19. Temporary Math Placement policies and procedures are now in place. Beginning November 12, 2020 all ALEKS PPL tests will be proctored by Test Center staff by appointment.

Step One: Get Started with ALEKS PPL

  1. Login to inside.cod.edu with your COD username and password. For assistance logging in, contact the Student Help Desk at (630) 942-2999 or studenthelp@dupage.edu
  2. In the Math Placement Test section click the "Test 1 or Prep and Learning Module" link to either take Test 1 or work in the Prep and Learning Module. If taking Test 1, click "Get Started" on your Placement Assessment. Note: Your Test 1 score will be used to recommend an individualized study plan in the ALEKS Prep and Learning module and cannot be used for course placement.
  3. Complete Test 1 or review in the Prep and Learning module until you feel ready to take a remote proctored test.

Step Two: Take ALEKS PPL Test 2 

  1. Review Math Placement Test Guidelines and FAQs.
  2. Schedule an appointment for a remote proctored test. 
  3. Prepare for your test session. Read the Student Checklist for Remote Math Placement testing.

Step Three: Take ALEKS PPL Test 3 and/or 4 (optional)

  1. Review Math Placement Test Guidelines and FAQs.
  2. If you are taking Test 3 – you will need to work a minimum of 3 hours in the Prep and Learning Module. Tests are locked until you complete the required time in your Prep and Learning module.
  3. If you are taking Test 4 – you will need to work a minimum of 5 additional hours in the Prep and Learning Module. Tests are locked until you complete the required time in your Prep and Learning module.
  4. Once you have met your Prep and Learning Module requirement, schedule an appointment for a remote proctored test. 
  5. Prepare for your test session. Read the Student Checklist for Remote Math Placement testing.

Note: Your Test 2, 3 and 4 scores will be used for course placement.

ALEKS Geometry for Spring 2021

Registration for the following Math courses will require a Geometry Placement test score: 0482, 1321, 1322, 1428 and 1431.

You may not need to take a Geometry Placement test if you have one of the following:

  • A prerequisite math course with a grade of C or higher. For math classes taken at another institution, transcripts must be submitted and evaluated by the Office of Student Records.
  • A previous College of DuPage ALEKS Geometry score that meets the minimum score requirements.
  • Other test scores

  2. In the Math Placement Test section, click the "Geometry Placement" link to either take your first test (Initial Knowledge Check) or work in Learning your study plan. Note: Your Initial Knowledge Check score will be  used to recommend an individualized study plan in ALEKS Geometry and cannot be used for course placement. 
  3. Complete your Initial Knowledge Check or review in your study plan until you feel ready to take a remote proctored test.

Step Two: Ready to take a proctored ALEKS Geometry Test

  1. Review Math Placement Test Guidelines and Geometry FAQs.
  2. Schedule an appointment for a remote proctored test.
  3. Prepare for your test session. Read the Student Checklist for Remote Math Placement testing.

Note: Your Comprehensive Knowledge Check scores will be used for course placement. The Comprehensive Knowledge check may be taken up to two times.
