2019 Summer Study Abroad

Field and Experiential Learning at College of DuPage will offer study abroad language intensive courses this summer that include travel to Costa Rica, France, Spain, Germany and Japan.

Classes extend learning beyond the traditional setting by offering students a unique opportunity for hands-on experiences while earning college credit. The following study abroad opportunities will be offered this summer:

San Jose, Costa Rica: Language and Culture

May 22 to June 22

Students will explore Costa Rica in a total immersion experience including intensive language classes at the Costa Rican Language Academy (CRLA), family home stays and excursions to such places as Manuel Antonio National Park, Arenal Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose, enjoys year-round temperatures in the 70s and is the cultural center of the country with its National Theatre, museums, galleries and shops. A fee of $3,125 includes round-trip airfare from Chicago, hotel accommodations on excursions, double occupancy home stay with breakfast and dinner, airport transfers in Costa Rica, cultural outings and textbooks. Tuition for six to seven credit hours is extra. Bordeaux, France: Language and Culture

May 29 to June 29

Experience French culture and “joie de vivre” in Bordeaux, France, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the capital of the historic region of Aquitaine. The program includes a three-day visit to Paris with museum passes, and excursions in the Bordeaux area including museums, visits to chateaux, and the medieval village of St. Emilion. Optional excursions are available to the Dune de Pyla, Arcachon Beach, and Medoc and Lacanau. A fee of $4,695 includes round-trip airfare from Chicago, hotel accommodations on excursions, home stay with breakfast and dinner, airport transfers in France, cultural outings and textbooks. Madrid, Spain: Language and Culture

May 30 to June 29

Study the Spanish language and acquire a firsthand knowledge of the people and culture of Spain. Madrid is located in the center of the Iberian Peninsula and offers a wide array of cultural opportunities. According to Ernest Hemingway, Madrid is “the most Spanish of all cities.” A fee of $4,450 includes round-trip airfare from Chicago, lodging in a “residencia” (dorm) with three meals per day, ground transportation in Spain, cultural excursions and course materials. Berlin, Germany: Language and Culture

June 1 to 28

Enjoy learning the German language while living and studying in the cosmopolitan city of Berlin. Visit famous East German museums, remnants of the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie. Day excursions may include a cruise on Lake Wannsee and trips to Dresden, Wittenberg and Hamburg. A fee of $4,750 includes round-trip airfare from Chicago, lodging in a home stay with breakfast and dinner, airport transfers in Germany, cultural excursions, and textbooks. Tuition for six to seven credit hours is extra. Kyoto and Osaka, Japan: Language and Culture

June 1 to 28

Held in cooperation with Kyoto International Academy (KIA) in Kyoto, this course offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the language and culture of Japan by interacting with the Japanese people on the street, on buses and in museums, theaters, shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as with their host families. A fee of $4,771 includes round-trip airfare from Chicago, transportation in Japan, on-site Japanese classes, accommodations, some meals and some excursions. Tuition for seven credit hours is extra.
