Pat Leahy, who has served as an assistant baseball coach for the Chaparrals since the 2022 season, has been named the program's head coach, College of DuPage Director of Athletics Ryan Kaiser announced today.

"Pat Leahy is an exceptional coach who has dedicated himself to COD baseball," Kaiser said. "Coach Leahy is the perfect balance between both old and new school methods and has done a great job of working with our players the past several years. I'm excited to get the Pat Leahy tenure started and build off of the last two years.”

Leahy played two seasons for the Chaparrals (2017-18), hitting .307 in his two-year career. He completed his playing career as an outfielder at Maryville College, an NCAA Division III institution in Maryville, Tennessee.

"I could not be more excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead the baseball program here at COD,” he said. "I am thrilled to serve as head coach where I played my first two years of college baseball and the last four years as an assistant. I'd like to thank the administration, led by A.D. Ryan Kaiser, which has instilled their faith in my abilities.”

The Wheaton native is a Wheaton North High School alum. He spent four seasons coaching travel ball and as a baseball instructor. His four seasons as an assistant at COD included working with outfielders and base running, in addition to game-day preparation.

COD finished the 2025 season 18-27 overall and 17-17 in Region 4. Six Chaparrals were named All-Region 4: sophomores Alex Chaltin (SS), Matt McBrien (OF), Joe Pender (OF) and Jason Sullivan (OF/RHP) and freshmen Cullen Kleinsasser (1B) and Porter Olson (RHP).

The Chaparrals reached the D3 Championship tourney in 2024, their first appearance in 31 years.
