Description of Organization:

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's mission is "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of its citizens." Volunteers share their SPIRIT – Skill, Passion, Imagination, Respect, Inspiration, and Time at Nature workdays, Special Events and at the Educational sites throughout the district.

Description of Service Learner Role:

At Nature Restoration workdays – use tools to cut brush, collect/disperse seeds by hand, occasional planting, and remove exotic weeds.

At Native Plant Nursery workdays – use hand tools to weed planting beds, collect seed, plant, and do general garden maintenance..

All volunteers must register for workdays at least 5 days in advance by doing so online or calling (630) 206-9630.

Dress in layers and in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Work gloves, safety glasses, and equipment are provided. No shorts or open-toe shoes.

Bring water, bug spray and sun screen for your comfort. Orientation and safety guidelines are provided.

Arrive 10 minutes before the start of the workday.

All phone registrant volunteers are required to bring the emailed waiver form to the workday.Online registrants will fill one out electronically.
