Name and Position of Contact Person:

Days/Hours Available for Service Learners:
Because Kindred Hospice delivers clinical excellence and extraordinary care 24/7 we are extremely flexible to meet the needs of the student. They are able to make their own hours based on their availability, and same days/times are not required.
Description of Organization:
Kindred Hospice provides compassionate care for people facing a life-limiting illness, as well as for their loved ones. Volunteers with Kindred are an important part of a larger team who recognize that medical/clinical care for patients in the last stages of life, along with psychological, spiritual, and social services for patients and families can contribute to improved life quality.
Description of Service Learner Role:
There are many volunteer opportunities with Kindred Hospice in order to help guide students in receiving experience in any field they may be interested in developing skills. Kindred also has special volunteers providing pet therapy, art/music therapy, relaxation/wellness therapy and is also level III partner with We Honor Veterans and provides Veteran-to-Veteran visits. Students may also use their area of expertise/interest during patient visits in order to decrease isolation. The possibilities are endless and may include simple conversation or reading to a patient, participating in activities, playing a card game, playing music or an instrument, helping with an art project or scrapbook, etc. This opportunity will not only make an impact on the patient and family but on the student's as well.
Volunteers must be 18 years old. Medicare and Kindred Hospice require all volunteers complete a background check/fingerprint, general physical and 2 step TB test at no cost to the volunteer along with required training to determine competency. We ask that the volunteers visit the patient for the duration of the semester, even if the required hours have been met to ensure quality of care to our patients. All interested student volunteers may contact Sara Schank in order to answer any questions or concerns.
