Description of Organization:
The Lisle Library District reaches over 26,000 patrons with events, programming and classes, and contains a rich collection of resources, audio-visual items, and technology and digital materials. It is constantly evolving to meet the dynamic needs of patrons, and serves as a place to research, study, experience cultural programming, grow in knowledge and gather as a community.
Established in 1965, the mission of Lisle Library District is to provide the highest level of service, programming and materials that enrich, educate and empower the community.
Description of Service Learner Role:
COD students would have a rich service learning experience facilitating in our weekly Family Literacy program, in partnership with the Ann Reid Early Childhood Center. The program provides English as a second language classes to at risk parents while their birth to five year old children are interacting and engaging with preschool teachers through learning and play in a social/emotional setting. COD students would work with the children in their setting and also can assist with the adults who are taught by a College of DuPage ESL teacher.
1. Student must be committed to consistent weekly attendance at the Family Literacy
program held at the Lisle Library District building.
2. Student must complete a volunteer application available from the Ann Reid Early Childhood Center.
