Description of Organization:
Pillars Community Health offers a variety of services including Medical, Dental, Mental Health and Addictions, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and Head Start, Early Head Start, and Child Care. The nonprofit organization is the result of a merger in January 2018 between Pillars and Community Nurse Health Center. Nearly 400 volunteers assist the organization each year. Some opportunities require training, particularly for those who want to serve at our domestic violence shelter; other opportunities, such as volunteering in our (resale) Community Shop, do not require prior training.
Description of Service Learner Role:
Our resale shop raises crucial funds for the medical and dental centers that provide healthcare to low-income patients from the western suburbs of Chicago. Volunteers who work in the shop will help with general retail store duties including assisting customers, stocking shelves, counters or tables with merchandise, keeping the showroom clean and orderly, organizing donations, monitoring the store, and more.
We request a minimum commitment of 20 volunteer hours from any short term volunteer. No prior experience required.
