Interim Manager, Internship Coordinator, and Service Learning Coordinator

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I love that my job gives me the opportunity to work with students, faculty, staff and the DuPage County community. I have the pleasure of helping students gain relevant work experience through internships, become civically engaged through their service-learning projects and collaborating with our local organizations to support their volunteer needs.

What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

I really enjoy spending time with my family and being outside as much as possible. When I am not working or spending time with my family, I am running. Before starting a family, I really enjoyed volunteering serving individuals with disabilities. This will become a passion project in my future as my children get older.

What advice would you give to your college aged self?

If I could give my college aged self any advice it would be to be more involved with my campus. I attended College of DuPage and Northern Illinois University. I wish I would have taken advantage of more internships, service projects, and clubs and organizations. I think being engaged with your campus has a major impact on your education and career.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

It is never the same, each person is unique with different goals and backgrounds. With my work I get to know people, discover their differences, and help them communicate that to employers/others. Along with providing support for their professional growth.

What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

Almost every Sunday you can find me volunteering in the children's ministry at church. Beyond that I am always happy to lend a helping hand for those that need it, more specifically I am passionate about helping those that are homeless and advocating for individuals with disabilities. For hobbies I just enjoy being active and involved. During the summer I am always looking to be outdoors hiking or taking in music at local fests. I really enjoy discovering new music!

What advice would you give to your college aged self?

I would tell my college age self to go out and explore more. I grew up in a sheltered household and never got to experience or truly discover the different cultures, landscapes, and possibilities out there. As a college student I got to see some of it but there was so much more I could have done at that time. It was not until the end of my college experience I really started exploring more and that is when I truly discovered myself and how I wanted to be moving forward.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

The challenge of helping students become aware of not only our office but the services we provide. I truly enjoy the challenge of shifting the perception that we're much more than just "that office you visit near graduation." My favorite moments are those when a student stops and says "wait I had no idea this is what you do and this is exactly what I need."

What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

Figure skating, knitting, baking, Disney Parks, watching The Office, hanging with her doggie, Logan, and husband Mike.

What advice would you give to your college aged self.

I wish someone would have said "SNAP OUT OF IT" and made me recognize that college is much more than just going to class. There's no harm in learning about campus resources and branching out during your first year. Recognize that you don't know what you don't know and ask questions. What you learn might surprise you. There are a number of valuable resources I was unaware of until I became a Career Specialist. Don't fall into the rut of only going to class. There's so much more!

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I love helping people reach their goals. Career prep and job searching can be nerve-racking, so I enjoy listening and sharing ideas with students, alumni, and community members that help make that process easier.

What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

Outside of work I have a podcast, Ghostly, that keeps me very busy. I am also a member of a local theater development company focused on bringing more arts to the suburban Chicago area called Memoriam Development.

What advice would you give to your college aged self?

Don't be afraid to explore. It is okay to try out different career ideas and to remember that while your major helps you in your career, it doesn't always decide your career.

Workforce Connections Coordinator

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I truly love meeting new employers and learning about their businesses. However, I most enjoy knowing that a job or internship that one of our employer partners shared with our students, could be the opportunity that sparks a student's career path.

What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

My family and I are huge animal lovers. We have a small zoo of our own that keeps us busy, but we also foster animals from the local animal shelter. We are currently fostering two wonderful cats that hopefully will be adopted to a loving family.

What advice would you give to your college aged self?

I would tell myself to pay attention in that Earth Science class because you will wish you could be of more help to your future children with their rock identification.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I really enjoy when students, alumni or community members contact our office asking for help and are blown away by the services we can offer them. I also really enjoy creating awareness for the Career Services Center through all of our social media platforms.

What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

I love to workout at OrangeTheory, baking sweet treats for my kids and organize spaces in my house.

What advice would you give to your college aged self?

The advice I would give my college age self would be to know the resources on campus and use them to your advantage. Academic advisors, career specialists and tutors just to name a few can transform your college experience and make it not feel so overwhelming.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

My favorite part of the work I do is helping others realize all of what they have achieved and what they are capable of. It's easy to disregard the work we have done as simply something we must do, but when we take a step back we can to see all of value we hold.

What hobbies, volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

My passions have become career development, statistics, geographic information systems (GIS), baking, sewing, and cosplay. My balance has always been finding ways to use my linear and creative thinking. I am currently working towards completing a GIS certificate and honing my sourdough recipes.

What advice would you give to your college aged self?

Do not give up on your passions just because you haven't found it by the time you enter college. Use all of your experiences to help you understand what you like and, more importantly, what you don't. Give yourself permission to make a mistake and not know about the future. You can constantly worry about the next year or after college, but the moment to reflect is now.
