Individual Counseling

The personal counseling services we offer follow a short-term counseling model. Most students complete between two and six sessions. Students interested in pursuing personal counseling will be contacted for a brief screening with a counselor. The counselor will clarify your goals and explore if your needs are best met by our office, or if a referral to an off-campus resource is more appropriate. If our office will be providing counseling services, then you and your counselor will develop strategies to address your concerns. In general, counseling sessions last approximately 45 minutes.

During busy times, counselors will do their best to accommodate student schedules, but if all appointments are full, counselors will provide options for referrals in the community.

Students seek counseling for a variety of reasons. Common concerns often expressed by students include:

  • Stress
  • Adjustment challenges
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Family problems
  • Relationship Issues
  • Identity development
  • Gender identity
  • Religion/spirituality concerns
  • Race, ethnic, or cultural matters
  • Grief/loss
  • Trauma
