High Ground documents the gripping and emotional journey of 11 returning Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans and one Gold Star mother on a vision quest in search of mental, physical and emotional healing. College of DuPage alum and war veteran Steve Baskis is one of the veterans featured in the film. Surviving an explosion that left him blind, shrapnel-scarred, and with nerve damage in his left arm, the Glen Ellyn native embarks on a breathtaking journey into the challenges of nature and the human spirit in High Ground.
The film follows the wounded warriors beginning with their training in Colorado to Nepal and finally up the enormous 20,000-foot Mt. Labouche in the Himalayas. While recounting their wartime experiences, the veterans find teamwork and friendship on the journey set against the breathtaking vistas of the Himalayas.
High Ground was produced by Don Hahn (The Lion King, Frankenweenie) and directed by five-time Everest climber and three-time Emmy winner Michael Brown. Associate producer Matt Murray is a Gulf War veteran of the USAF, a United Airlines pilot and a mountain climber as well.
