Welcome to the Geography program at College of DuPage. Our extensive offerings now include a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Our diverse curriculum is unmatched among Illinois community colleges. Our core courses — Geography of the Western World (GEOG 1100) and Geography of the Eastern World (GEOG 1105) — satisfy distribution requirements for the two-year degree at COD. Additionally, we teach regional specialty courses for North America, Latin America, and Russia. Our topical courses include Economic Geography, Urban Geography, and Cultural Geography. This is an exciting program, with skilled faculty bringing geographic facts, concepts, and thinking to students.

Faculty Spotlight

  • Faculty Spotlight: Scott Campbell

“Geography is a body of knowledge, but it’s also a way of thinking. Of course I hope that students leave my class with more facts in their heads than they came in with. But the really rewarding thing is when students tell me that they read something or saw something and understood it in a way, and thought about it in a way, that they never would have before taking my class. That’s the real business of education – increasing curiosity and awareness. Give them something to think about but, more importantly, make them want to think about it.”

"Teaching gives me the opportunity to continue to study places that fascinate me. Additionally, I find it satisfying to promote geographic interest and understanding in my students, especially at a time when geographic literacy is weak."

"I like to share my experiences, and I hope students start to see the world through the lens of a geographer."
