Faculty Stories: Brandon Wood

Brandon Wood

Program: Speech Communication

Through his early work in forensics, Brandon Wood became interested in a career in speech communication.

“I realized that there was an entire discipline dedicated to helping people understand each other,” he said. “After that, I noticed improvements in my friendships, small study groups and at my work.”

Wood was a speech professor and director of forensics at Central Texas College before coming to College of DuPage, where he hopes students gain the knowledge that even if something scares or intimidates them, they can still master it.

“I get to take all the theories and techniques that have made my life better and give students tools for better relationships, better academic outcomes and a better sense of self-confidence,” he said.

In turn, he is inspired by his students, especially those who have taken a non-traditional path through education.

“They recognize, despite challenges, that school has value because they have value.”
