Major: Real Estate/Business
When Danny Glover began taking classes at College of DuPage, he wasn’t quite sure what he wanted to do.
He started by completing his prerequisites while working full-time. But then a plan began to emerge, and his research and interests led him toward business and real estate.
“I took all of the real estate courses COD had and I ended up buying and renting out two houses,” he said. “I completed my Real Estate Broker certificate in 2008 and also took business and entrepreneurship classes, because I knew I wanted to own my own business and be able to determine my own future. Mr. Udelhofen was probably the best teacher I ever had as he brought real-life success and entrepreneurship into the classroom. This kept my attention and made it much easier for me to learn and stay intrigued.”
It was in his entrepreneurship class that Glover created a business plan to buy his own establishment. When he met with banks to purchase Skuddlebutts Pizza and Catering in Downers Grove, he tweaked that plan and was able to get a loan.
Skuddlebutts became a popular local eatery. In 2013, it received the “Business of the Year Award” in the category of Hospitality from the Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce. He then opened a second Skuddlebutts location in Glen Ellyn.
With his family growing, Glover sold the restaurant and joined his wife in expanding her real estate business, which is quickly growing. He also expanded their commercial real estate portfolio.
In 2021, he tackled a new role as a commissioner on the Downers Grove Village Council.
Glover is always learning. He has great mentors and is happy about the success of his business. He is grateful to COD and the many opportunities it offers.
“COD has amazing programs,” he said. “It played an important role in building my knowledge of real estate and business.”
