Student Stories: Lori Lysik

Major: Library and Information Technology

Lori Lysik-Forney was always a fan of libraries and found a job at one in 2011.

“Working there showed me a whole new side of a library, and I found my passion in helping people,” she said.

This passion led Lysik-Forney to further her education. She decided to turn to College of DuPage and the Library and Information Technology program because several co-workers had completed the program and provided nothing but positive feedback.

Lysik-Forney discovered that her coworkers were right.

“COD helped me toward meeting my goals in education and for my career by teaching me more about libraries, because each class taught me about specific fields within a library,” she said. “The program helped me get my full-time job.”

After earning her Associate in Applied Science degree in Library and Information Technology, Lysik-Forney completed a bachelor’s degree in communications focusing on advertising and public relations at Governors State University. She currently works at the Chicago Ridge Public Library as the programming and marketing coordinator, after spending several years as the adult services programming coordinator.

“This job is my dream job and I love every minute of it,” she said. “Thanks to College of DuPage, I already have met my career goals. One of my favorite things about libraries is being able to provide people with things that will get them into the library. With my job, I get to do that every day.”

Lysik-Forney would urge students considering COD’s Library and Information Technology program to sign up as soon as possible.

“The courses are fun, the teachers are all nice and understanding of busy schedules, and you get to meet a lot of great people,” she said.
