Major: Paralegal Studies
Talicia Shankland was interested in law and found the Paralegal Studies program at College of DuPage after searching online for American Bar Association-approved programs.
“I initially wanted to be an attorney and thought it would be a good idea to start out as a paralegal first,” she said. “I wanted to get a deeper look into the legal world.”
She did so through a program that was thorough in its approach.
“The paralegal courses at COD were tailored to real-life paralegal scenarios. I loved that the selection of courses was very broad and you were able to sample all areas of law before graduating. The practicum course helped me prepare for the job search.”
Paralegal Studies Success Stories
After earning her Paralegal Studies certificate, Shankland transitioned into a family law paralegal position. Her ultimate goal is to become a paralegal manager at a mid- to large-size law firm.
For students considering COD’s Paralegal Studies program, Shankland advises them to take it seriously.
“Get involved with the Paralegal Club and other clubs on campus,” she said. “What you put into the program is what you will get out of the program. Give it your best shot!”
