Health Care Office Assistant Program

Train to become a valued member of the health care team in two semesters or less. College of DuPage offers a short-term certificate to become a health care office assistant. The Health Care Office Assistant certificate prepares students for the roles and responsibilities of the administrative office in health care settings.

There are no health requirements in order to take classes for the certificate. Classes are offered fully online (NET) or through required virtual classroom meetings (VCM). There are no face-to-face classes.

The program includes five courses, which can be completed in one or two semesters. All credits earned for this certificate transfer to the Medical Assistant certificate or Associate in Applied Science degree.

Responsibilities of health care office assistants include both administrative and patient relations: greeting patients, scheduling appointments, updating medical records, working with health insurance, medical billing procedures, adhering to legal and ethical responsibilities of healthcare and completing front office tasks. Employee benefits are included in close to 100 percent of full-time jobs. Most employers require vaccinations, a criminal background check and drug screen.
