Management Professor Jane Murtaugh instructs, advises and mentors students in human resources management, talent acquisition and retention, compensation and benefits, performance management, learning and development, employee relations, organizational behavior, and strategic management. She developed and chairs the COD Human Resources Management Certificate program and advises students on their path to completion of this certificate and others within the College's Business/Management/Marketing discipline.
Murtaugh brings a combination of real-world and educational experience to her management classrooms. After an initial stint as a high school business teacher, she transitioned into the corporate arena where she worked as a marketing support representative for NBI Incorporated, a software trainer, systems engineer and systems engineering manager for Data General Corporation, and as an area technical manager for Avnet Incorporated. These managerial work experiences also provided the settings where she gained her HR Management experience.
After completing her MBA and master's degree in Business Education, Murtaugh chose to return to the community college classroom so that she could work with students seeking to begin or advance their management and HRM careers. She is a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) awarded through the Society for Human Resource Management. She previously taught part-time at Elgin Community College for eight years and has been a full-time professor at COD since 2001.
