Advance your career as a medical assistant apprentice. Northwestern Medicine and College of DuPage are offering an exciting opportunity to help continue your education in the healthcare field as a medical assistant (MA). 

About the Apprenticeship Program

Apprenticeships are a way to advance your career through getting paid work experience, have your classes paid for and earn a Medical Assistant certificate from COD. Yes, you’ll earn your certificate and won’t need to pay tuition.

  • Work 20-30 hours at one of Northwestern Medicine’s western suburb locations
  • Take 15 classes to earn a Medical Assistant Certificate at College of DuPage
  • Hourly salary and full employment benefits
  • Education is fully paid

Under the supervision of a healthcare provider, medical assistants help with performing patient treatments while also:

  • Performs basic tasks, screening procedures and specimen collection.
  • Screens for and communicates changes in patient condition.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains examination area.
  • Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.

Medical assistants may also perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, billing, and patient registration.

  • NMG West and Far West Gastroenterology, NMG Hepatology Winfield

You’ll take COD’s medical assistant certificate coursework as follows. Note if you’ve taken some courses already you do not need to retake these courses. 

Northwestern Medicine requires: 

  • Basic Life Support Certification from an American Heart Association accredited source within 90 days.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

College of DuPage requirements will be provided at a program advising session.

Apprenticeships are a way to advance your career through getting paid work experience, classroom instruction and earn nationally recognized credentials. You will also be able to have your:

  • Education paid for; there are no out of pocket expenses since tuition, books and fees are covered upfront.
  • Earn while you learn. Take classes at College of DuPage while earning a salary.
  • Earn a Medical Assistant Certificate and receive college credit to build towards your college degree.
