The Learning Commons offers workshops throughout the year on math and geometry, study skill strategies and writing, reading and speech. Workshops are free to currently enrolled COD students.
To register for any of the math or geometry workshops, sign up online, email math-assist@cod.edu, call (630) 942-3339 or stop by the front reception desk in the Learning Commons.
Math Placement Test Information Sessions
Learn about taking the math placement test and how you can work to improve your score. No math instruction is given at this session. Sessions will be held both in-person in the Learning Commons (SRC 2102) and online via Zoom except as noted. To register, sign up online.
Whether you attend in-person or via Zoom, you must be registered at least one hour before the session begins in order to attend.

- Thursday, August 10, Noon to 1 p.m.
- Monday, September 11, 1 to 2 p.m.
- Tuesday, September 12, 5 to 6 p.m. (zoom only.)
- Tuesday, November 21, 4 to 5 p.m.
- Thursday, December 14, 3 to 4 p.m.
Geometry Review Workshops
Two 2½ hour sessions are offered to review basic geometric principles in preparation for the ALEKS geometry placement test. Students should sign up for both Session 1 and Session 2.
Geometry workshops are offered in-person only in the Learning Commons (SRC 2102). To register, sign up online.
- Wednesday, Aug. 9 and Thursday, Aug. 10, 2 to 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Sept. 12 and Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2:30 to 5 p.m.
- Thursday, Dec. 14 and Friday, Dec. 15, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
3-Week Math Placement Test Review Workshop
Free math review sessions for students scoring between 6 and 19 on the ALEKS math placement test who would like to place into MATH-0481 or MATH-0465. Students will have time to take another ALEKS test and enroll in a 12-week 0481 course for the fall semester if they score at or above the cutoff score. Sessions will be held in-person in the Learning Commons (SRC 2102). Plan to attend all six sessions.

Additional help for ALEKS PPL is available during the second 8-week summer session
on a walk-in basis or
by appointment between May 22 and June 8.
Math Placement Test Workshop: College Arithmetic Strategies
A free two-hour workshop which focuses on methods for efficient hand-calculation (a required skill to do well on the ALEKS math placement test.) Sessions will be held in-person in the Learning Commons (SRC 2102).

Popcorn and Planning
Snack on popcorn while preparing for a successful fall semester! Learning Commons staff will offer tips to help students get organized, better manage their time and study effectively — as well as create their own unique plan for the semester. Join us in person in SRC 2131 (across from the Accounts Payable office) on either of the following dates:

Beginning of Semester Success Workshops
Beginning of Semester Success (BOSS) workshops are open to all College of DuPage students and provide strategies for study skills, time management, as well as maintaining a positive attitude throughout the semester. Learn more about BOSS workshops.
Dimensional Analysis Workshops
For students enrolled in the COD Nursing Program. Practice medication conversions and dosage calculations with the help of a COD tutor. Walk-ins are welcome. Learn more about Dimensional Analysis Workshops or call Tutoring Services at (630) 942-3686 for more information.
Improve Your Writing and Speech Skills
The Learning Commons offers online videos to help students improve their skills in writing, reading, and speech. They can also offer strategies for study skills and Beginning of Semester Success.
