student in a history class

History Program

History is a study of the past. It also measures change over time. It is a study of the people, ideas, and movements that have formed the past and helped shape the present. History should be studied to gain a better understanding of the world in which we live. It should also be studied because it is inherently fascinating. It helps us understand different societies in an ever-changing world.

Majoring in history prepares a student for a wide range of careers because of the skills that are developed through intensive study. Many employers for many different job want their employees to be able to read critically, research effectively, analyze constructively, and communicate (verbal and written) well. The study of history develops all of these skills and more allowing majors to have many more options rather than a narrow path.
