April 1, 2025 Consolidated Election Information

  • Nonpartisan Illinois Voter Guide (League of Women Voters Illinois)
  • Important Dates
    • January 2: First day to apply for a vote by mail ballot.
    • February 20: First day to vote early at the office of the election authority.
    • First day for the election authority to mail an official ballot to registered voters within the United States.
    • March 4: Last day for regular (paper) voter registration.
    • March 5–April 1: Grace period registration and voting at election authority and early voting sites.
    • March 16: Last day for online voter registration. Grace period registration is still available at election authority and early voting sites.
    • March 17: First day to vote early at permanent polling places.
    • March 27: Last day for election authority to receive vote by mail applications.
    • April 1: General Election Day! Polls open from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Know Before You Go

  • Identification is not required to vote at the polls in Illinois, although you will be required to verify your signature. If you registered to vote-by-mail and did not submit any ID with the registration, you must show a form of ID to vote. 
  • A government-issued photo ID is not required to vote as long as your registration is accurate and up-to-date. Voters can call or text (844) 338-8743 to reach the voter ID helpline.

Right to Vote

  • In Illinois, if you have spent time in jail or have a criminal record, you still have the right to vote. Once you are no longer in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections, your right to vote is automatically restored.
